COVID-19: Council Tax Reduction update
We recognise that many residents may be adversely impacted by COVID-19 and this might mean you are unable to pay your Council Tax bill during this period.
We are here to help you through this challenging and stressful time and can offer financial relief in the form of the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
The Council Tax Reduction Scheme is available any time of the year and will be beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
Who is eligible?
You could be eligible for the scheme if you’re on a low income, no income at all, claim benefits or have savings below £16,000. Your bill could be reduced by up to 100%. You can apply for the council tax reduction scheme if you own your home, rent, are unemployed or working.
If you currently get a reduction in your Council Tax because you are on a low income and are of working age, Haringey will reduce your Council Tax bill for 2020/21 by up to £150.00.
If your bill for this year is less than £150.00, the amount you have to pay will be reduced to zero (£0.00).
How much is the reduction?
What you get depends on:
- where you live - each council runs its own scheme
- your circumstances (e.g. income, number of children, benefits, residency status)
- your household income - this includes savings, pensions and your partner’s income
- if your children live with you
- if other adults live with you
The reduction will only be applied to the amount you owe for the current tax year. If you have any outstanding Council Tax for previous years, it will still need to be paid.
This reduction will be applied to your bill automatically – you do not need to contact us.
We will send you a new bill with reduced instalments as soon as we can. You should continue to pay your current instalments until your new bill is received.
