Control of drinking alcohol in public

PSPO 

PSPOs were introduced under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.  

They are intended to deal with nuisance or anti-social behaviour that: 

  • takes place in a particular area  
  • is detrimental to the local community’s quality of life  

Haringey has a PSPOs for 11 wards covering drinking alcohol in a public place.

Drinking alcohol in a public place 

You are allowed to drink alcohol in a public place in Haringey.  

However, you must stop drinking within the boundary of the PSPO when asked to by: 

  • police officers 
  • community support officers  
  • authorised persons representing the London Borough of Haringey 

If you don’t, you are committing an offence. 

Confiscated alcohol can be disposed of by the person who confiscates it.

If you commit an offence 

If found guilty of an offence, you are liable on summary conviction to either a: 

  • fixed penalty notice of £100  
  • maximum fine of £500 

If you pay the fixed penalty notice on time, we take no further action. Failure to pay on time may result in prosecution.
