Council services over Christmas

Service opening hours for the festive season 2019

During the Christmas and New Year period there will be changes to a number of Haringey Council services, with reduced opening hours and changes to normal waste and recycling collection days.

Homes for Haringey will be running a weekend service from 25 December 2019 to 1 January 2020 - see the Homes for Haringey website for details.

Customer services

Customer Service Centres (this is the walk-in service and not the Customer Service phone service - see call centre below)

Opening times for Marcus Garvey and Wood Green Customer Service Centres:

  • Monday 23 December 2019 - open 9am-5pm
  • Tuesday 24 December 2019 - open 9am-1pm
  • Wednesday 25 December 2019 - closed
  • Thursday 26 December 2019 - closed
  • Friday 27 December 2019 - open 9am-5pm
  • Monday 30 December 2019 - open 9am-5pm

Both Customer Service Centres will operate a normal service on the days they are open.

Social media channels

Over Christmas and New Year, our social media channels will only be monitored for service requests on the days that the Customer Service Centres are open (see above).

Please note: as many council services are closed during the holidays social media requests will be logged only, and issues looked into when services resume on 2 January.

The Call Centre customer service phone lines will be closed throughout the Christmas/New Year period:

Refuse and Recycling

Bin collection dates

There will be changes to your collection day over the Christmas and New Year period for the weeks commencing Monday 23 December and Monday 30 December 2020:

  • Week beginning Monday 23 December - most collections during this week will take place two days later than usual
  • Week beginning Monday 30 December - most collections during this week will take place one day later than usual
  • Normal collections will resume on Monday 6 January 2020

The reuse and recycling centre is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Parking

Bank holiday parking

On bank holidays and public holidays, free parking is available in all on-street Pay by Phone (formerly Pay and Display) parking bays and in all open council car parks.

Parking Permits

Residents may apply for and renew resident and visitors parking permits online during the holiday period. Please note that applications will not be processed on bank holidays and public holidays.

Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive

Bruce Castle Museum and Haringey Archive will be closed to the public from Saturday 21 December 2020 to Wednesday 1 January 2020. Normal visiting hours will resume from Thursday 2 January 2020.

Adult social care

If older and vulnerable residents need any help or support, then they should call 020 8489 1400 during normal office hours. For help and support outside of office hours, including during weekends and bank holidays, the number to call is 020 8489 0000.

  • The Community Alarm/Telecare Service is a 24 hour/365 day service, so this will be operating as normal over the holiday period
  • Clarendon Recovery College will be closed from Monday 23 December 2019 and will reopen on Thursday 2 January 2020
  • Ermine Community hub will be closed from Tuesday 24 December 2019 and will reopen on Thursday 2 January 2020
  • Haynes Day Centre will be closed from Tuesday 24 December 2019 and will reopen on Thursday 2 January 2020
  • Winkfield Resource Centre will be closed from Monday 23 December 2019 and will reopen on Thursday 2 January 2020
  • Meals on wheels services will operate over the Christmas/New Year period - please check specific details with your provider

Community equipment - Medequip Service Arrangements

Residents with community equipment on loan from us - such as pressure mattresses and hoists - should note that Medequip, the provider that delivers, collects and recycles this equipment has the following reduced hours during the Christmas period:

  • Monday 23 to Tuesday 24 December 2019 - normal service, 8am-5pm
  • Wednesday 25 to Thursday 26 December 2019 - out of hours emergency service
  • Friday 27 December 2019 - normal service, 8am-5pm

    Schools and Children’s Centres

    Haringey schools break up for the Christmas holidays on Friday 20 December 2019 and will return for the spring term on Monday 6 January 2020.

    Some schools may also have training days, so please check directly with your child’s school to confirm the return date for pupils.

    Children’s Centres on school sites will generally have the same term dates as schools, but again please check directly with your child’s centre.
