Wraparound childcare is before and after-school childcare for primary school-aged children aged 5 to 11 years old during term time.
This includes breakfast clubs and regular after-school childcare provision until 6pm or later.
The care is aimed at helping parents access more childcare and work the hours they want to. It should be available every school day outside of regular school hours.
Applications for Wraparound Funding
The government has invested £289 million to support the expansion of wraparound childcare for primary school-aged pupils as part of the National Wraparound Childcare Programme. Haringey are now into the second year of the programme and have available funding for settings that offer primary-aged wraparound childcare.
This funding will support primary schools and private, voluntary and independent providers, including childminders to introduce or expand childcare provision between 8am and 6pm and enable them to test flexible ways of providing childcare and gather evidence of what works.
The government’s ambition is for all parents of primary school children who need it to be able to access childcare in their local area from 8am to 6pm. This will help to ensure that parents have enough childcare to work full time, more hours and with flexible hours.
Programme funding is available and can be used to cover costs including employing staff members, training for staff, marketing and some resources. Schools and providers awarded will be expected to financially sustain this by the end of the programme in September 2026. Please note that Haringey are no longer accepting applications for capital funding (to support renovations, extensions, or construction).
