About Haringey Music Service
HMS coordinates individual, group and whole-class instrumental and vocal music tuition in Haringey schools.
We work with a highly skilled and carefully vetted team of over 150 freelance teachers, most of whom are also performing musicians. We give our students opportunities to perform locally, regionally and around the world, developing their skills and experience.
HMS runs the Haringey Young Musicians programme of music ensembles which are open to anyone of school age living in or attending school in Haringey. These groups meet weekly for 10 weeks per term and give at least 1 public performance.
Our HYM groups meet at 4 venues across our borough.
- HYM Hornsey - Hornsey School for Girls, N8 9JF
- HYM Tottenham - Duke's Aldridge Academy, N17 0PG
- HYM Vox - Chestnuts Community Centre, N15 5BN
- HYM Steel Pans - Holy Trinity CE Primary School, N17 9EJ
We strongly believe that every child is entitled to a stimulating, challenging and accessible educational experience in music. Our young people are nurtured and encouraged to build on their musical ability and experiences, and strengthen their:
- skills
- knowledge
- understanding
- appreciation of music as an art form
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)
Haringey Music Service wants to create and maintain equity in music education for all children, young people, teachers and our community. We endeavour to embed equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of all we do. We are fully committed to furthering our work on EDI, and have produced a working strategy that can be viewed here:
