About Alexandra Park School
Alexandra Park School is a thriving and dynamic comprehensive school which boasts excellent examination results and an outstanding curriculum experience in both the main school and the sixth form. The school is situated on a beautiful five-acre site adjacent to Durnsford Park within sight of Alexandra Palace.
Alexandra Park is proud to be a true comprehensive school. Ours is a rich and diverse community with a culture of learning at its heart. Our school motto is “Success for all” and everything we do is planned to enable us to achieve this vision. At APS, students will discover a supportive and friendly environment. High standards of discipline and behaviour are maintained and every individual is encouraged to strive for excellence.
Our students follow a traditional yet innovative curriculum which offers real challenge, and prepares them to meet the changing world in which we live. This is reflected by our high participation rates in more demanding subjects such as Separate Sciences, Computer Programming and Mandarin. A high proportion of our KS3 students choose to study additional courses in Astronomy, Latin and Classics.
Our students achieve extremely well. This year more than 80% of our students gained 5 or more good grades at GCSE with English and Maths. We ensure our students make excellent progress from when they arrive in Year 7 and consistently achieve outstanding results. Attainment 8 is very high at 57 and a Progress 8 of + 0.5 places APS in the top group of schools for performance. The English, Maths, Science, Languages and Humanities Departments’ performances have seen them all ranked in the top 3% across all schools.
The sixth form offers an extensive range of courses. The provision has been independently assessed (ALPS) as in the top 5% of institutions nationwide. Ofsted judged our sixth form as Outstanding in every category. In 2018, 92% of our students achieved A*-C grades at A level, with 62% achieving A-B grades and 27% being awarded the top A*/A grades. Two thirds of our students went to one of the top 30 universities. Importantly, over 75% of our students were able to follow the course they had chosen at their first choice university.
The performance of students at GCSE and A Level has seen Alexandra Park School named in the Sunday Times Top 20 Comprehensive Schools in the country.
Our latest Ofsted Inspection states “Alexandra Park School is an outstanding school. The decisive and inspirational leadership of the Headteacher and a highly effective leadership team has enabled Alexandra Park School to continue its journey of rapid improvement. Students are highly motivated learners who make rapid progress from their starting points through outstanding teaching, an excellent curriculum and exemplary care, guidance and support. Attainment is high and rising. Students are highly committed to their studies and are aspirational.”
Alexandra Park School is a happy and successful school. It is a great place to teach and a great place to learn.
