Who can use our service
Haringey Tuition Service (HTS) is a service for students whose medical needs prevent them from attending mainstream school.
It also provides an interim service for students in mainstream schools, whose medical conditions cause them to require further support.
The Home Tuition Service also provides 1:1 tuition in the home or in public libraries for students who have medical needs and cannot attend school.
Home tuition
During their period of home tuition, the service aims for students to have as much continuity with their mainstream studies as possible. Tutors will liaise with the child’s school to ensure the core curriculum is adhered to.
The service offers the students a range of educational experiences whilst also focusing upon the Core Curriculum consisting of English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Personal Social Health Education.
Our approach
The aim of the service is to improve each individual student’s attendance and personal well-being with the aim of reintegrating them back into mainstream placements, whether that is school, college, further training or employment.
The service works with a multi-agency focus and ensures that students’ well-being and safety are at the forefront of everything the service does.
The structure of attending school and education is an essential part of the service. The aim is for students to return to mainstream with increased resilience and confidence. However, the service recognises some of our students begin with very small steps. The service will not rush students back into mainstream settings if this is not appropriate.
The service has gained an excellent reputation, being successful with students where other interventions have resulted in less successful outcomes.
A typical day
Students begin their day at 9am with a well-being session. Students are divided into Primary, KS3, KS4 A &B groups.
