Haringey’s Responsible Retailers Scheme aims to protect local traders from falling foul of the law by providing support and advice on important trading legislation concerning the responsible sale of alcohol, cigarette and knives and the consequences of selling these products to minors.
There are two levels to the scheme:
- Responsible Retailer
- Responsible Retailers Plus
Responsible Retailer
As a Responsible Retailer you are committed to doing everything you can to prevent your business selling age-restricted products that could harm children and will also avoid dealing in illicit alcohol and tobacco. Haringey Council will provide you with the resources and support you need to achieve this, including a specially developed training and guidance pack.
Responsible Retailers Plus
In addition to the standard scheme, you are also making a commitment that your business is working as a retailer that cares about the health and wellbeing of your customers. This is demonstrated by agreeing not to sell some of the most harmful forms of alcohol - such as very high strength cheap beers and ciders, (specifically 6.5% AVB and above) and by carefully considering the way you and your staff display and sell alcohol.
The Responsible Retailers Plus scheme, designed by Haringey Council, encourages traders to support efforts to make Haringey a healthier and safer place by adopting responsible selling practices.
