Street Trading - stalls
Haringey Council has only a limited number of approved licensed street trading sites. Their numbers have dwindled in recent years due to traffic and traffic related matters as traditionally the sites are on street corners at the junctions with main roads.
Vacancies now seldom arise. The Act of Parliament covering street trading permits long standing licence holders to nominate a member of family to succeed them when they retire.
The side roads in Wood Green where Licences are currently held apart from Lymington Avenue and one in Courcy Road are Dovecote Avenue (2 stalls), Coleraine Road (2 stalls) and Brampton Park Road (1 stall).
There are no street trading pitches currently available, and the waiting list is long. However, if you wish you can still apply to be added to the Street Trading waiting list online.
The council does licence traders near the Spurs Football Ground on match days. All sites are taken and a waiting list is kept.
Neighbouring Borough Waltham Forest has a road closed to traffic in Walthamstow where there are hundreds of licensed pitches. Both Hackney and Islington Councils from time to time advertise vacant sites in local papers but these may not be at the most viable locations.
You can apply to be added to the Street Trading waiting list online. When you have reached the top of the waiting list, we will contact you, then you may apply for a street trading licence online (external link) on the Business Link website.
Some traders set up stalls on private land and forecourts outside shops. There are restrictions and the law governing this is currently before Parliament under review. People trading on private land may need a licence from the council. For more information, please contact the Street Enforcement Team (see their details below).
