Collection days, ordering new bins and missed collections

Collection day

To find out your collection day, please use the search facility available on the Veolia Haringey website (external link). Alternatively, you can contact the Veolia Haringey Contact Centre:

Tel: 020 8885 7700
Email: enquiries.haringey@veolia.co.uk

Please put your recycling wheelie bin out the night before your scheduled collection day. Many collections are made early in the morning, and even if your bin is normally emptied later in the day, the order in which streets are visited by the collection vehicles may need to be changed at short notice for operational reasons.

How to use the service

The evening before collection day, please:

  • Put your wheelie bin as close to the edge of your property as possible (next to the front gate, if you have one).
  • Make sure the wheels of the bin are facing outwards.
  • The bin should not be obstructed by parked cars or bikes, pot plants or other garden features.

Once it has been emptied your bin will be returned to the collection point. Please do not leave your bin on the pavement.

  • Please do not place your dry recycling in black bin bags

How the recycling is collected

Your recycling is collected by a special type of vehicle which looks similar to a normal refuse truck but has two compartments. One compartment is used to collect the food and garden waste whilst the other is used for the mixed recycling.

All the mixed recycling is compacted in this vehicle so that more materials can be collected every day. This helps to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, saving fuel and therefore cutting carbon emissions.

Your recycling is taken to a Materials Recovery Facility, where the latest technology is used to separate the different materials. The sorted items are then sent to reprocessing companies to be recycled into new products.

For more information, please see the mixed material collections section on the what happens to recycling page.

Recycling wheelie bins or green sacks

Most properties with a front garden are provided with a wheelie bin for their recycling

However, there are some locations where bins cannot be provided, and residents will therefore receive a green sack collection. If you live in a medium- or large-sized block of flats then please visit the recycling for flats and estates page for more information.
