Transport Service Consultation
Proposed changes to Haringey Council's passenger transport services for Adults with Learning Disabilities
This Consultation is now closed
You can now view the result of the consultation and the report produced for the Cabinet Member Signing.
What we consulted on?
Passenger transport is what we use to take adults with learning disabilities to and from home and activities during the day. This involves use of a mini bus, driver and escort to help users of this service on and off the bus.
|back to topCurrent service
We have 21 buses, based at the centres. They are there all the time so they can be used to take users of services out in the community for activities. They also pick up and drop people off at their homes.
|back to topHow the service will work in future
We plan to reduce the number of buses kept full time at the day centres by about a third and hire additional buses to support pick up and drop off of people. This change will reduce costs in a way that minimises impact on the delivery of the service.
|back to topWhat will change?
- There will be new drivers on the buses that pick up from and drop service users off at their home.
- Pick up and drop off times may change.
- It is possible service users may be on the bus for longer than they are used to.
- We will need to plan ahead more as we will have fewer buses based full time at the day centres to ensure that users of the service continue to be able to get to the community activities they have been used to.
Full details are set out in the Passenger Transport Proposal (PDF, 250KB)
|back to topWhat will not change?
Passenger transport is an important service and everyone who has been assessed as requiring transport for day opportunities will continue to receive this service. Users of the service will:
- Still be picked up and dropped off from their day activities.
- Still go out to activities during the day in the community.
- Continue to be told in advance when they can choose to go out in the community.
- See the same staff at the day centre who will also be used to escort people.
Reason for proposed changes
With less money to spend, following the Government's Comprehensive Spending Review last year, we have been looking at how we can make efficiencies and still continue to provide a transport service for Adults with Learning Disabilities with less money.
|back to topWhy we consulted
Haringey Council is committed to involving users of these services and others in decisions that affect them - especially decisions about the care and support services they receive.
People who use the service, their families and carers, as well as other important stakeholders, helped us develop the consultation proposal. We wanted their views about the proposed changes. This helped us to make the changes with Adults with Learning Disabilities in mind and shape the future of transport services for them.
