Mental Health Services for Adults

Haringey Mental Health Service is provided through partnership between Haringey Council, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust (BEHMHT). Many services are provided by the Mental Health Trust and include community mental health services (via our joint community mental health teams), as well as acute hospital inpatient services. The Mental Health Trust delivers its services through ‘Service Lines’, these are listed below:

  • Common Mental Health Problems – this service line provides a single point of access service (called Intake). Services are also there for people who may be experiencing depression and anxiety, and also includes the team that works with Primary Care (for example GP’s) – a short term service that includes psychological treatments, signposting to other mental health services and support/advice for informal carers, on education and employment. There is also a 24 hour walk-in Acute Assessment Centre available.
  • Psychosis – this includes the community mental health teams (the teams are called, support and recovery teams, the community rehabilitation team, the early intervention service) who work with people for example who have schizophrenia, bi-polar affective disorder or other psychiatric disorders. There is also a wellbeing service, that focuses on medication administration and advice, help with social care issues, and support with physical health problems.
  • Crisis and Emergency – this service line works with adults (18-64) who are in crisis. It includes inpatient services, as well as Home Treatment Teams who can offer intensive support for people in the community to avoid them coming into hospital.
  • Dementia and Cognitive Impairment – this service line brings together a range of services for older people with mental health problems, including dementia, and people with Learning Disabilities. A range of inpatient, outpatient and community provision is available, and includes the joint Older People’s Community Mental Health Team.
  • Severe and Complex Non-Psychotic – this includes the personality disorder service, outpatient psychology services and works with people who have have complex health and social care issues, however without a diagnosis of psychosis.
  • Forensic – this includes inpatient and outpatient for people who have had contact with the criminal justice system, and have a mental health issue.
