Overview and Scrutiny Committee
Decision making
Haringey has established the Leader and Cabinet model of local democracy. The Cabinet is a small group of councillors consisting of a Leader and eight Councillors who have responsibility for a specific portfolio area and take key decisions within the budgetary and policy framework agreed by the Council.
Overview and Scrutiny Committee
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee (OSC) is made up of the Chairs of the seven Local Area Committees, one additional member (to ensure proportionality) and six co-opted members. The Committee’s core functions are to:
- monitor the Council’s and the standing leadership conference performance including the Local Area Agreement targets
- developing and reviewing policy, taking into account the evidence base and the views of the public
- reviewing decisions made by Cabinet and council officers, questioning Cabinet Members and officers in a positive and productive manner on issues within their portfolio area
- aiding community engagement, participation and involvement in Council matters
- scrutinising the activities of external public bodies e.g. health, and agencies which support the Local Area Agreement and the crime and reduction partnership e.g. including, police, fire and rescue services and job centre plus etc.
The Overview and Scrutiny Committee has nominated a Scrutiny Lead Member for each of the Standing Leadership Conference theme boards. All Overview and Scrutiny Committee meetings are held in public.
