Traveller Gypsy Roma Education

The Haringey Traveller Gypsy Roma Education Team aims to work closely with Traveller, Gypsy and Roma families, schools, and Services to ensure access and raise the achievement of Traveller Gypsy Roma pupils.

The Traveller Gypsy Roma Education Team consists of a Team Manager, 2 Engagement and Inclusion Officers, a Teacher and an Education Welfare Officer. You can contact the team using the details below.

The team work across the borough through Children’s Centres, schools and colleges.

The aim of the team is to:

  • provide access to education for Travellers Gypsy and Roma families
  • help raise the achievement of Traveller Gypsy and Roma children and young people through working with parents, schools and other services
  • promote in schools Traveller Gypsy and Roma culture through teaching resources and training
  • help Traveller Gypsy Roma pupils and young people achieve their full potential.

The Team supports Children’s Centres, Schools and Colleges by giving advice and guidance, training, and providing home/school liaison to develop partnerships with Traveller Gypsy Roma parents.Child reading a book

The team works at all levels within the Children and Young People’s Service, ensuring that the LA’s (Local Authority) policies and practices include the needs of Travellers, Gypsies and Roma, and other mobile groups.

They provide interventions that aim to effect change that schools can then continue to sustain, to provide advice to schools on ways of working that encourage Traveller Gypsy and Roma families to become actively involved in education.
