Julia Miranda: Air Show
Julia Miranda working

Wednesday 31 March to 1 May 2010
Private View: Wednesday 7 April from 7.00pm - 9.00pm

Julia’s canvases are immense, not only in size, but in concept. Julia never really defines the subject, but that is absolutely fine, it just adds to the ambiguity and intrigue. You will find yourself staring at them for a long while and on the way home still wondering what you just saw. Julia’s art captures a beauty that is as unconventional as it is stunning.

Julia works in acrylic, ink and charcoal and often uses papers and fabrics containing some printed or embossed pattern or text; it could be bed-clothes, toilet paper, textured building timber or upholstery fabric; anything that comes with a built-in story which could either be developed or partially erased. Julia’s main focus is the composition of an image and certainly not the details.

Julia Miranda was born in the UK and lived with her English mother and Brazilian father in Brazil until she was five. Since then she has lived in Camden Town, North London. Although now settled in London her love and passion for Brazil is obvious. Julia studied Graphic Design at Brighton University and went on to work as an art director producing films with a strong social and historical value: 'Art in the National Gallery', 'Art at the Tate', and 'Art Store'. In 2005 her work on 'Lad’s Army' was short listed for a BAFTA.

Julia is well established as an artist – participated in group shows and solo exhibitions in Brazil; is currently preparing for an installation in an empty flat in Whitechapel; in September she will exhibit at the Paço Imperial Museum of Modern Art in Rio; and in December at the Home from Home Gallery, Munich.

Land: Printed and Painted

Land: Printed and Painted Artwork

Wednesday 3 to Saturday 27 March 2010

Private View Wednesday 10 March, 7 to 9pm
Land: Printed and Painted is simply an exploration of land, as seen by John Bourne and Lydie Gallais. Two artists passionate about the British landscape and its capacity to take your breath away by, simply existing. John, a painter and Lydie, a printmaker- capture every possible interpretation of land using two artistic genres as diverse as landscape itself.

John Bourne has exhibited extensively across the UK, and his self-taught style has made his paintings a rare treat for buyers. Inspiration for John’s canvases, are all around him – no field too green, no vista too spoilt. ‘I am interested in human contribution to landscape; in particular the changes and impact brought about by agriculture, industry and urban development.’

French born Lydie Gallais, is an accomplished printmaker with an extensive list of exhibitions ranging from London’s City Hall to the Deutsches Märchen- und Wesersagenmuseum Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. Lydie’s love and adoration of land is displayed effortlessly in her prints, as she manages to capture the vivid greens and avid yellows, perfectly.

Land: Printed and Painted runs from 3 to 27 March 2010 at the Original Gallery, N8. Join us at the private view for a glass of wine and chance to meet the artists – Wednesday 10 March at 7pm.

Land: Printed and Painted is stunning, simple and will make you feel like packing your bags and running to the country!
