Housing Allocations Policy

Introduction of new Housing Allocations Policy

Our Housing Allocations Policy 2011 is now in use.

This new system has been designed to make the allocation of social housing more transparent and to make it easier for applicants to assess their prospects of being offered the tenancy of a council or housing association home.

When you bid for properties, your level of priority will be determined by your Housing Needs Band (A, B, C, D or E) and the date you joined the Register.

Due to the very high demand for social rented housing in Haringey, almost all of it will be offered to applicants in Housing Needs Bands A and B.

Therefore, we strongly urge applicants in other bands to visit our housing options page or call 020 8489 1000 to book an appointment with a housing adviser.

The new Housing Allocation Policy will place applicants for housing in a Band from A to E.

  • Band A is for those applicants who have the most urgent or critical housing need.
  • Band B is for those applicants who have a high priority housing need.
  • Band C is for those applicants who have an identified housing need.
  • Band D is for those applicants who have an identified housing need but have a lower priority than Band C or no local connection.
  • Band E is for those applicants who do not have an identified housing need or local connection or those applicants who do have an identified housing need which meets Band D criteria but do not have a local connection.

To join the Register please visit our Housing Register page.

A separate housing register and banding system will be in place for those in need of supported housing.

If you are already on the Housing Register

All existing applicants will have received a letter notifying them of which Band they are in.
