Scaffold, Hoarding, Container and Crane Licences

When carrying out any building work/maintenance or removal of any part of a property which is adjacent to the public highway (road, pavement or rear lane), the safety of all users of the highway must be paramount.

This is achieved by providing safe areas at ground level or a platform at high level. When it is necessary to place hoardings on the highway around the place of work or scaffolding, permission is necessary and can be obtained from Haringey Council, on completion of an application and site inspection. Once permission has been granted, the conditions attached to the licence must be carefully read and kept to at all times.

In addition to the scaffold and hoarding licence, you can also apply for licences to place a crane or run of containers on the public highway.

Scaffolding Licence

Licence Cost: £265
Initial Inspection/Process Fee: £60
Emergency or Retrospective, Inspection Application Processing: £70
Deposit Required: Yes
Dimension Area of Scaffolding x £60 per square metre
NB: Do not forward cheques for Deposit until we have advised you of the Required Amount
Deposit Refundable: Yes, in full, dependent on there being no damage to the footway.
Licence Period Covered: 3 Months
Renewable: Yes
Renewable Cost: £265
Copy of Public Liability Insurance: £5,000,000
Inspection Fee: £30
Visits made to site to ensure compliance with the above following complaints from the public or others will be charged at a minimum of £30 per visit.

Hoarding Licence

Licence Cost: £265
Initial Inspection/Process Fee: £60
Emergency or Retrospective, Inspection Application Processing: £70
Deposit Required: Yes
Dimension Area of Scaffolding x £60 per square metre
NB: Do not forward cheques for Deposit until we have advised you of the Required Amount
Deposit Refundable: Yes, in full, dependent on there being no damage to the footway.
Licence Period Covered: 3 Months
Renewable: Yes
Renewable Cost: £265
Copy of Public Liability Insurance Required:£5,000,000

Visits made to site to ensure compliance with the above following complaints from the public or others will be charged at a minimum of £30.00 per visit.

Container Licence

Licence Cost: £150
Container on Carriageway Fee: £80 per week (eg 1 month = 4 weeks x £80 = £320
Deposit Required: Yes
Deposit Fee: Dimension of Container x £60 per square metre (width x length)
Dimension Area of Scaffolding x £60 per square metre
NB: Do not forward cheques for Deposit until we have advised you of the Required Amount
Deposit Refundable: Yes, in full, dependent on there being no damage to the footway.
Licence Period Covered: Length of Period Container is on Carriageway
Renewable: No. New Licence for New Period needs to be Issued
