CCTV, Freedom of Information and Data Protection
Our CCTV cameras are there to help prevent and detect crime, anti-social behaviour and disorder in the borough and to help enforce traffic and parking regulations and so we will not generally make the images captured by our CCTV cameras available to members of the public.
- CCTV images featuring a person may be personal information about them, so we will not make the images available to anyone else as this may breach the Data Protection Act and/or the right to privacy under the Human Rights Act.
- We will allow people who have been issued a parking or traffic enforcement Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) to view any relevant CCTV images. We will not provide a copy of the images unless the case goes to the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service (see external links section below).
- We will always provide CCTV images to the police where they are needed for the investigation or prosecution of a crime.
- The Data Protection Act gives people the right to access personal information about themselves, which could include CCTV images featuring them. If we hold CCTV images featuring a person, we may be able to provide that person with a copy of the images if they tell us the precise time, date and location of the incident and provide a way for us to identify them, such as a photograph or description (requests can be made using the form on the Data Protection page of this website).
- Please make sure that we receive your request for CCTV images within 28 days of the incident as we delete most CCTV images after that period.
