I Hear Voices

This project introduced participants to the power of the human voice as a sound tool. The main aim of the project was for participants to gain a greater understanding and awareness of the power of their own voice, and how it is central, not only as a means of communication, but as a wonderful tool for the production of sound.

Exploring digital sound technology

The group listened to a variety of musical extracts where speech and the human voice were central components, such as Laurie Anderson, Philip Glass and Meredith Monk, to gain inspiration for their own voice recordings.

Workshops introduced the group to the use of digital technology (digital sound recording equipment + Apple sound software) in their exploration of the human voice as a sound tool. The group were also be introduced to a multitude of concepts, including; intonation, repetition, abstract sound making and pitch control.

The group  produced an interesting soundwork which was burnt to CD. One workshop involved producing the CD cover, and recording the actual sounds of their art making.

Participants gained a greater understanding and awareness of the power of their own voice, and how it is central, not only as a means of communication, but a wonderful tool for the production of pure sound and hence music.
