Equipment, adaptations and services
Needing help because you are older or have a disability or long term illness does not mean that you can’t live your life in the way that you want to.
There is a range of equipment and adaptations that can help you be more independent at home. Go to AskSara (external link) to find out what help is available.
You can browse Haricare to see the range of local organisations providing services to help you.
If you need support with your day-to-day living needs we can give you an assessment under the Care Act 2014.
The assessment will help us agree on what services you need, and how much they will cost. You may be eligible for a Personal Budget which is a sum of money we make available every week to pay for your care and support. You can receive this as a Direct Payment to buy your care yourself. You can manage this yourself or you can get help with this.
Some people, particularly people who may have mental health issues, dementia or a learning disability, want their Personal Budget managed by the council. This means we will arrange the services for you.
You may need to contribute to the cost of your care - for information on this visit our paying for care page.
