Homelessness Strategy

Homelessness Strategy 2008-2011

The Homelessness Act 2002 required local authorities to review homelessness in their own area. Following our review in Haringey we worked in partnership with other organisations and residents to develop our Homelessness Strategy to combat the problem.

We also had high levels of homelessness in the borough. We have worked hard to reduce this number from 5,867 households in April 2007 to a current figure of 3,823 (December 2009). This work continues to reduce this further.

We have now reviewed the first year of the strategy and the key outcomes are that:

  • Feedback has shown that the strategy has improved the position for homeless people in the borough
  • Working relationships between agencies has improved
  • Belief that the Housing Service can sustain the charges already started

The review looked at the structure of the Delivery Groups and identified further areas of homelessness to tackle.
