Pupils’ artwork gives splash of colour to Wood Green
Monday 12 May 2008
Primary school pupils have helped to design a new mural that is helping to brighten up a Wood Green road.

The pupils from Noel Park Primary, together with Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, Cllr Kaushika Amin, saw the new mural unveiled in Lymington Avenue, N22, on Friday 9 May.
With the help of artist Stephen Hall, along with parents and teachers, the children produced the artwork on hoardings to cover a site of recently demolished temporary units in Lymington Avenue.
Long-term plans for the site are now being drawn up as part of new planning guidance - called the Wood Green Town Centre Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) - that will steer the development of the Wood Green town centre over the next 25 years.
Later this month Haringey will launch a consultation with residents on the SPD. Their views will be incorporated into a final version and will be used when assessing the suitability of all future planning applications for the area.
But in the meantime the council hopes the hoardings will brighten up the area and discourage anti-social behaviour around the Lymington Avenue site.
The project, which involved children from nursery age to Year 6, is based on the theme of “The Journey to School” and was linked to specific subjects studied by each year group.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, Cllr Kaushika Amin, said:
“The new planning brief for Wood Green is all about building on its position as an excellent place to live, shop and do business. This site in Lymington Avenue will play an important role in our plans.
“But in the shorter term we want to ensure that residents and businesses continue to benefit from an attractive environment.
“The project with Noel Park Primary has succeeded in really brightening up Lymington Avenue. I’d like to thank pupils, parents and teachers for all their efforts and congratulate them for producing such creative designs.”
