Haringey sport scores with Wembley cash boost
Local sports clubs/organisations in Haringey have been given a funding boost as the Wembley National Stadium Trust today announced its first grants programme in the borough.
The Trust receives a top slice of all Wembley Stadium revenue, which it gives out as grants for community sports activities.
With a pot of £100,000 available, the one-off funding programme will provide grants of up to £2,500, for new sports kit, equipment, minor building works to sports premises or the costs of establishing a new or additional activity within your club.
Grants are available to any official sports club, local community organisation or school, which is already delivering community sports activities within Haringey.
The scheme is open for applications from February 23 to April 6 2018, with decisions to be announced in early May 2018.
Stewart Goshawk, WNST's Chief Executive said:
We know that the local community will have missed having Spurs playing at their traditional home this season, so we are pleased to be able to direct some of the additional funding that Wembley is generating back into the local area.”
Cllr Joseph Ejiofor, Cabinet Member for Customer Services said:
We are delighted that Haringey sports clubs, organisations and schools will benefit from this much needed funding. It’s important grass roots organisations get the vital support they need to develop and nurture our future sports talent.”
