Head teacher appointed to new secondary school
Tuesday 24 March 2009
A Crouch Ender whose children attend a local primary school has been appointed as the head teacher of the new Heartlands High School.
Simon Garrill, 36, currently deputy head of Haverstock School in Camden, was officially appointed to the post this month and is due to start work in September.
Simon is a Haringey resident with children attending a local primary school. He started his teaching career at Hendon School and has enjoyed working in three different schools in North London and one in Hertfordshire. Simon is currently a Deputy Head of Haverstock School in Camden.
Simon said:
"I am delighted to be appointed as Head teacher at Heartlands High School. A new community school in Haringey offers a great opportunity to the young people and the community it serves. I am really looking forward to working with governors, parents and the community to create a school of which we can all be proud."
Heartlands High School will be located close to Alexandra Palace station and is scheduled to open in September 2010. The mixed comprehensive will eventually support over 1,000 boys and girls aged 11 to 16.
The new school is a key part of Haringey Council's £200m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme which is transforming teaching and learning at secondary and special schools by improving ICT (such as computers and interactive whiteboards), school buildings and facilities.
Cllr Lorna Reith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
"Simon has the right experience and qualities to lead our new community school and positively support its students, staff and parents. I am looking forward to working with him - and seeing our educational aspirations for the new school realised."
Simon Garrill will now begin working with the council and the school's temporary governing body to appoint other senior staff to the school.
