Have your say on Wood Green’s future
Ambitious plans for the transformation of Wood Green are going to a third round of public consultation, and we want to hear residents’ views.
The Haringey Council consultation, on the updated Wood Green Area Action Plan, launches on February 1 and will run until March 16. There will be engagement sessions at the library and former Wood Green Post Office in the Library Arcade and lots of information on our website here: www.haringey.gov.uk/regeneration/wood-green
We have been gathering the community’s views on the future of Wood Green since 2015, as we look to deliver 4,000 new jobs, 6,400 new homes and build a thriving, prosperous, green town centre, where current and new residents are proud to live and work.
Wood Green has fantastic strengths, including culture, diversity and a superb location, but through our consultations residents have made it clear they want to see big changes in the area.
The draft AAP – which includes much of the Noel Park and Woodside wards, as well as smaller parts of Harringay, West Green and Alexandra wards – is a planning document that shows which locations are set to be included in the transformation, and looks to ensure these changes are well-managed, and in line with the community’s aspirations.
This new version takes into account community feedback from previous consultations and engagement sessions. It includes updated plans to keep the borough active, including improving cycling and walking options and providing two new open spaces. We are even looking at the potential to create “palace ponds” which could host a leisure facility at the current Hornsey Filter Beds site in Alexandra Park.
Homes on Caxton, Mayes and Coburg roads have also been removed from the plans. And, as we await news on the potential for Crossrail 2 in Wood Green – which we very much support – the AAP has been adapted so that our plans are not dependent on the decision.
Cllr Joe Goldberg, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Social Inclusion and Sustainability, said:
Residents have made it very clear they want to see big changes in Wood Green. Our plans will create 4,000 new jobs, 6,400 new homes and provide a vibrant town centre, bursting with life and opportunities. It is fantastic that the community has been so engaged so far and we encourage residents and businesses to have their say again, as we launch our new consultation.
