Haringey libraries spring literary festival
Leading local authors including Freya North and Romesh Gunesekera took centre stage at Haringey Council's first ever literary festival, which took place between 29 March and 10 April.
"Haringey Reads Haringey" was a fortnight of events in libraries across the borough, from author talks to storytelling, writing classes and literary walks, with a focus on local talent.
Programme highlights
Walk: Screening Muswell Hill
Local film and television sites led by Ian Christie, Professor of Film and Media History, Birkbeck University of London. Start outside Muswell Hill Library, finish at Alexandra Palace.

Polish Cultural Event
Narrative performance with Ania Dykczad, writer, performer and broadcaster and music with Boguslaw Maslak and his group.

Munch and listen - talk by Peter Brown on The Vicar of Tottenham 1607-1632
Discover more about William Bedwell one of Haringey’s distinguished worthies – an early historian, one of the translators of the King James I Bible and Arabic scholar. All whilst being vicar of Tottenham’s All Hallows Church. Bring your lunch.

Cheryl Moskowitz - Poetry with children
Interactive workshop with published poet, playwright and novelist as well as actress and story-teller Cheryl Moskowitz who has extensive experience of working with children in schools.
Author event – Paul Gilroy
Eminent LSE professor Paul Gilroy, who has written and lectured widely on politics, race and culture, will talk about and give a visual presentation on his book Black Britain: A Photographic History.

Author event – Charlotte Mendelson
Charlotte Mendelson will talk about and sign copies of her new book When we were bad, described as “…an irresistable treat” (The Guardian) and an “elegant and witty drama …part family saga part romantic comedy” (The Independent). The author’s previous novel Daughters of Jerusalem won the Somerset Maugham and John Llewellyn prizes.
Literary walk
Exploring the architectural heritage of Tottenham with the expert guidance of Bridget Cherry, editor and co-author of Pevsner’s Architectural Guides.

Author event – Romesh Gunesekera
Booker prize shortlisted novelist Romesh Gunesekera, gave a talk and signed copies of his most recent book The Match.
Literary walk round Betjeman’s Highgate
The places connected with the early life of the poet memorialised in his later poetry and pros with Betjeman specialist Stephen Games editor of Tennis Whites and Teacakes and Sweet Songs of Zion.
