Extension of the Free Swim Initiative

Free swimming for Haringey residents who are 60 and over or 16 and under are to end in the autumn

Government funding for the scheme has been withdrawn from 31 July 2010 which has meant that the council have carried out a review.

Take The Plunge and swim for free

The council has decided to offer free swimming until the end of August 2010.

From 1 September 2010, Haringey residents who are 65 and over will continue to be able to swim for free Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm if they have registered through the Active Card Scheme. Children under three will also swim free of charge.

  • No new registrations for free swimming will be processed after 6 August 2010
  • Other parts of the council’s aquatic development plan are unaffected by these changes. Adults will still be able to enjoy their first six weeks of the 14 week lessons programme for free.
  • From 1 September 2010, those who are 16 and under and registered for free swimming will be charged £1.60 or £1 if they hold an Advantage or Advantage plus active card.
  • Those who are 65 and over wanting to swim outside the times of Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm will also be charged £1.60 if they continue to use their active card.
  • Haringey residents who are registered for free swimming and on a means tested benefit can swim for £1 if they bring evidence of their eligibility into one of the leisure centres and register for an Active Card.

Public forums

Have your say...

As part of Haringey's Sport and Leisure Service's commitment to communicate with its users more effectively, we are hosting a series of customer, partner and user forums throughout the year; where users will be able to attend an informal but open meeting with key managers and other centre users / stakeholders / community members. You will hear about improvement plans, scheduled works and proposed facility programme / activities outlined for the future.

If you would like to voice your opinion on any matter regarding any of the centres or to hear what we are planning for the future, then please come along to your local forum. New Dates are being confirmed and will be available shortly.

Feedback from the last forum

This Open User Forum was well advertised both internally and externally with key members of staff available to answer questions and queries on the operations at our leisure centres. Please take a moment to review the feedback from the forums held at the White Hart Lane Community Sport Centre and the Park Road Leisure Centre in the attached files section below.

On this occasion no one found it necessary to attend the forums held at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre and the College Road Sport Centre.
