Haringey landlords invited to share experiences

Thursday 7 February 2008

Landlords across the borough are invited to share their experiences and learn more about issues that could affect them at a special meeting organised by Haringey Council on Wednesday 13 February.

The meeting of the Landlords' Forum, which takes place in the Palace Suite at Alexandra Palace from 6.30pm to 9pm, will include presentations on the Local Housing Allowance - a new way of calculating housing benefit for claimants in the private sector.

The forum, which meets quarterly, is aimed at enabling landlords to share their experiences of letting accommodation, both with each other and with the council.

The council also hopes the forum will enable it to better respond to the concerns and needs of landlords, as well as increasing their awareness of changes to legislation and improving their ability to provide high quality accommodation.

Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Isidoros Diakides, said:

"We are determined to do everything in our power to ensure that everyone in this borough can enjoy high quality housing.

"However, like all other London boroughs, the demand for housing far outstrips supply, so we need to look at creative ways that will enable us to offer more people a home.

"One of the ways we are addressing this is by forging ever closer links with private sector landlords, so that we can house more homeless people through the council's letting schemes.

"I would encourage all landlords to attend the meeting of the forum so that they can find out more about the tenancy options available."

Light refreshments will be provided during registration for the forum, from 6.30pm to 6.45pm.

Landlords can also contact the council with any topics they think should be included in the discussions.
