Social Care Charges

Charges for community care services

If you live in a residential or nursing home or receive a service in your own home or at a day centre you may have to pay towards the cost. The information about charges is divided into general questions and answers for different types of services. It includes a full explanation of how we work out the amount you will pay and how to appeal if you think your charge is wrong:

Benefits and advice

We provide information and advice on the full range of welfare benefits and entitlements that are available to residents. This includes:

  • providing comprehensive benefits advice as part of charging for community care
  • providing easy-to-follow online information and useful external links to Government websites
  • actively promoting the take-up of benefits through advice surgeries, campaigns and events around the borough
  • keeping staff up to date with changes to the benefits system.

Pensions and pension credits

Older People’s Services also work in partnership with the local Pensions Service to provide advice surgeries in supported housing units and drop-in centres. The surgeries include information about Pension Credits.

Going into hospital

Remember to notify the pensions office and the council.

Receiving Direct payments

Direct payments are for people who receive social care support from Adult Services. Instead of providing you with a care service, Adult Services can give you the money to buy your own care services.
