The Recruitment Process

We try to complete all recruitment within a maximum period of 10 weeks, but to do this, we need your help!

There are various stages to the process including

Stage 1:  Applying for a job

  • Make sure that your completed form is returned by the closing date given on the advertisement.  We cannot accept late applications
  • Make sure that you keep a copy of your form as you may need to refer to it if you are interviewed

Stage 2: Shortlisting the applications

  • The recruiting manager and another member of the interview panel reads each application and assess it against the candidate specification criteria
  • Candidates who met the criteria are shortlisted for interview
  • Candidates who do not meet the criteria are not shortlisted
  • If you are shortlisted, you will receive a letter within 28 days of the closing date giving you details of your interview
  • If you do not receive a letter, you should assume that you have not been shortlisted.  You can however ask for feedback from the recruiting manager to help you when you complete any applications in the future.

Stage 3: The interview

  • Make sure that you know exactly where the interview is being held and how to get there.  Leave enough time for your journey.
  • There will probably be 3 people who interview you and each will ask you some questions which will be based on the candidate specifiation.
  • You will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have at the end of the interview.
  • Read through the Interview Tips and Hints section on the website
  • Following the interview, you will be contacted by the Chair of the interview panel who will let you know the outcome of the interview.
  • If you are successful, a provisional offer of appointment will be sent to you which will be subject to pre-employment checks.
  • If you are not successful, you should ask the Chair of the panel to give you some feedback to help you with any future interviews.

Stage 4: The appointment

  • You should contact you referees to let them know that a letter will be sent to them asking them to complete a reference for you and that it would be helpful if they could complete this as quickly as possible.
  • The provisional offer will ask you to bring in or to post documents which confirm your national insurance number, your date of birth and your identity and you will also receive some forms to fill in. Please either make an appointment to bring in the documents or post them (by recorded delivery) as quickly as possible.
  • We won't be able to agree a start date or give you a contract until we have all the infromation we need.
  • Please make sure that you don't resign from your current job or stop any benefits which you may be receiving until you receive a letter from us confirming that we have received all the information we need and that you can begin work with us.

To make sure that you can begin in your new job as quickly as possible, you should ask your referees to send the information to us quickly and make sure that you send us all the inforamtion we need within a week of receiving your letter. Any delays will mean that you have to wait to begin working in your new job.
