Enforcement
How we work
Our ‘Enforcement’ is rarely noticed, the Building Regulations state what must be achieved.
The regulations don’t define ‘how’ because the location, design, building materials and techniques constantly produce unique projects. In reality there is often more than one method to comply which means that we are constantly interpreting the regulations and comparing solutions.
We prefer to do this at the design phase, rather than involve building owners in costly and time consuming changes during the construction phase. We discuss design options and agree the best and most economical way to achieve the right result.
This is still ‘enforcement’, but achieved in a cooperative and professional way. But we will go to court to protect people!
|back to topWhy it's important
From the Great Fire of London onwards the responsibilities for all involved in the building process have increased. Major disasters such as Ronan Point, Bradford City and Summerland could all have been avoided.
Terrorist attacks, extreme weather, social and demographic change, sustainability - the challenges keep growing and so the way our buildings are designed evolves continuously.
|back to topHow we take action
Unfortunately, there are some people who want to avoid building to even the minimum standards. And whilst clients get every chance to amend and resolve faults, we are still left with a handful of people whose aim is to avoid the standards and defraud their end customers.
If there is a serious danger to health, the potential to damage neighbouring properties, a criminal fraud, or a deliberate abuse of access, fire and energy rules, then Building Control will go to court.
