Source Separated Collections
We collect recycling from our Reuse & Recycling Centres and many of our on-street recycling sites using separate containers for each material. Similarly, where the Sorted Recycling Service is still in operation, different types of items from the green boxes are sorted by the operatives into separate compartments on the collection vehicle. This system is called source separation.
Most of the source separated materials are brought back to our depot in Wood Green to be put into different skips or large containers. Once these are full, they are collected by the re-processing companies to be taken to their facilities elsewhere in the UK. Some containers of materials are collected directly from the Reuse & Recycling Centres by the re-processing companies.
Here is an overview of where some of the source separated materials go from our depot and Reuse & Recycling Centres:
- Textiles and shoes – LM Barry & Co Ltd. (see external links section below)
- Paper – Aylesford Newsprint
- Cardboard – GNC or London Waste Ltd.
- Tins and cans – Firbank Chiltern
- Glass – Berrymans
