Dog registration
Dog owners are required by law to tag their dogs when out in a public place. You may wish to join a dog registration scheme whereby your dog will be tagged or micro-chipped with a number against which owner details are recorded. This helps to trace lost or stray pets.
For further tips on how to be a responsible dog owner, please visit the Dogs Trust welfare charity website (see the external links section below).
Stray dogs
When a lost or stray dog is picked up by the Dog Warden, all reasonable steps will be taken to contact the dog owner. If we cannot identify the owner, we will keep the dog for a period of 7 days. Dogs are cared for in our kennels at a cost to the owner of £40 for the first offence, then £60 for the second offence, and £90 for the third offence. £25 is charged per day per dog for kennelling thereafter. Owners will also be charged any other fees incurred, including veterinary fees. Dogs will not be returned to owners until these fees have been paid, or arrangements for payment agreed. Dogs can be transferred to Battersea Dogs Home at any time.
What do I do if I have lost my dog?
If you have lost your dog, please contact us during office hours on 020 8489 1000. We keep a register of all stray dogs we pick up and all lost dogs reported to us.
How do I report a stray dog?
If you would like to report a stray dog during office hours, please call 020 8489 1000. During office hours, the Dog Warden will collect stray dogs.
If you would like to report a stray dog out of office hours, please call 020 8348 3148. Out of office hours, we provide an acceptance point where the public can bring stray dogs by appointment. The Drop Off Point is Tottenham Hale, N17. If you cannot bring the dog to this point, please wait to report the dog during office hours.
For further information please contact the Dog Warden.
