CCTV, Freedom of Information and Data Protection
The Data Protection Act gives people the right to access personal information about themselves, which can include images of them, such as CCTV.
Images relating to a parking or traffic enforcement Penalty Charge Notice (PCN), will normally be shown to the person to whom the notice was issued in our offices; we will not normally provide a copy unless the case goes to the Parking and Traffic Appeals Service (see external links section below).
Otherwise, if we hold images of someone, we will try to provide them with a copy if they give us enough information to find the images (usually the time, date and location of the incident recorded) and proof of their identity within 28 days of the date of the incident. Requests can be made using the form on the Data Protection page of this website.
We cannot provide members of the public with personal information about other people, including that in CCTV images, as this would likely breach the Data Protection Act and/or the right to privacy under the Human Rights Act.
Haringey Council’s CCTV cameras are meant to help enforce traffic and parking regulations and to help prevent and detect crime and disorder in the borough, The images they capture are not meant to be a public resource. We will always provide CCTV images to the police where they are needed for the investigation of crime.
