Haringey: the Beacon Council
Haringey Council was awarded a prestigious Beacon Council Award for 2005 for its work involving and engaging local people. The national scheme showcases council success stories across the country and encourages other town halls to learn from good practice. Haringey's award is for excellence and innovation in the "Getting Closer to Communities" category.

Council achievements in the Beacon Award
Council achievements highlighted in the Beacon award include:
- The seven area assemblies and their popular "Making the difference" budgets for local people
- Local partnership boards, youth forums and a range of local improvements, from warden schemes to new street lights and better street cleaning
- Major projects including the new neighbourhood resource centre in Northumberland Park and the Laurels Healthy Living Centre in Seven Sisters.
Haringey is one of seven Councils to win the Beacon Council award for "Getting Closer to Communities".
