How do I complain to the Local Government Ombudsman?

The Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) independently investigates complaints about local authorities. The LGO will normally only investigate your complaint after you have been through the Council’s own complaints procedure, though there are limited exceptions.

The Information Commissioner's Office is the UK's independent authority set up to promote access to official information and to protect personal information. How do I complain about a housing association service?

You should make your complaint to the Housing Association. All social landlords (except for local councils) must have a formal procedure for dealing with complaints. Contact your Housing Association for details of their complaints procedure. If you are refused a copy or told there isn’t one you should contact the Independent Housing Ombudsman (visit their website via the external links section below).

How do I complain about my private landlord?

Most large landlords will have a complaints procedure. You should use this procedure to make a complaint. If there is no complaints procedure, Haringey Council’s Housing Advice Team can advise you on how to deal with the problem. Contact them on 020 8489 4309 for on-the-spot advice or an appointment.
