New Deal for Communities
The Bridge New Deal for Communities
The Bridge New Deal for Communities is an ambitious regeneration programme based in the Seven Sisters area of Tottenham. It began in 2001 and runs until 2011.
The Bridge New Deal for Communities is investing £50m in the future of the Seven Sisters. The programme is funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government as part of a national £2bn programme of 39 New Deal for Communities.
|Back to topPartners
The Bridge New Deal for Communities works in partnerships at all levels. At a strategic level we are engaged with all of the local service providers through the Haringey Strategic Partnership Board.
A number of these partners – Haringey Council, The Metropolitan Police, The Primary Care Trust, The Mental Health Trust and Job Centre Plus are also represented on our Board.
|Back to topThemes
At a local level we engage with our local communities, those who live, work and study via our three Theme areas;
- Health, Social Care, Sport and Leisure,
- Education, Employment and Enterprise and
- Neighbourhood Services.
Each theme has its own Chair and Vice Chair from the local community, and a Theme Manager. The Bridge New Deal for Communities has run over 200 projects designed to improve the life of residents in the Seven Sisters area.
|Back to topProjects
At an operational level many of our projects are delivered in partnership with key local service providers. As an example, Homes for Haringey delivered improvements on the Suffolk Road and Tiverton Estates as well investing in those estates to bring properties up to the Decent Homes Standard.
We have also developed the award winning Laurels Healthy Living Centre which represents a significant step up in the quality of health care facilities and provision in the area.
|Back to topOur approach
The Bridge New Deal for Communities is adopting an investment for change approach to plan and promote change. The programme addresses cross-cutting issues, joining up services, focussing on adding value and supporting a delivery culture.
Another plank in our strategy is to change the face of Seven Sisters – through enabling the development of key sites of strategic importance in the Seven Sisters area such as Wards Corner, St Ann’s Bridge and 341-379 Seven Sisters Road.
|Back to topOur vision
Our vision for Seven Sisters is to build a sustainable community of communities. We will work to make the area thrive economically, flourish socially, and regenerate it for current and future residents. We aim to create an area where people are proud to live and work without fear of crime. We will combine the diversity of our communities, and the efforts of our partners to deliver extensive renewal for Seven Sisters.
The Bridge New Deal for Communities is led by Director Geoffrey Ocen and a Partnership Board. The Chair of the Board is Lorne Horsford and his Vice Chairs are Rachel Hughes and Andrea Holden.
