Following on from the successful work carried out over summer 2009 to improve the playground in Paignton Park, through the improvements in the toddlers' area and the creation of a natural play space, Recreation Services carried out a second phase of works in early 2010. In July 2011 Paignton Park was named as being one of the best parks in the country, winning a Green Flag for 2 consecutive years
These works concentrated on the southern park entrance at Paignton Road and created a community square. This included improving the park entrance, creating new paths, installing furniture and adding an outdoor table tennis and chess table. Recreation Services worked in partnership with Groundwork, who secured money for the scheme through working with the Friends of Paignton Park.
