British Citizenship
Citizenship Ceremonies
Every week Haringey holds Ceremonies for people becoming British Citizens. The Ceremonies are held every Friday in the Council Chambers of the Civic Centre in Wood Green.

New Citizens are required to make an oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to the crown and a promise to be a good citizen. The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and includes an introduction from the Superintendent Registrar, a presentation of Certificates by the Mayor, Past Mayor or Haringey Councillor, the National anthem, and afterwards an opportunity to take photos.
We provide tea and coffee outside the Council Chambers. The fees already paid to the Home Office cover the cost of the ceremony.
Arranging your Ceremony
New citizens will receive a letter from the Home Office informing them that they have been granted British Citizenship. At the same time the Home Office will send us your certificate. The letter states you should call us within 14 days, please wait 7 days before calling. We cannot book an appointment for you until we have received your certificate.
Individual Ceremonies
There is also an option to have an individual ceremony. The aim in providing this service is to cater for people who would like to make it more of an occasion and hire a hall, possibly for a party afterwards. We would go out to the venue and conduct the ceremony. There is an additional fee for this service.
Once you have booked a hall within Haringey, you can call us to arrange a Registrars attendance. The individual ceremony is not designed for people who want to have the ceremony sooner than the offered date. Please contact the Citizenship team if you would like more details on arranging an individual ceremony.
