Looked After Children (LAC)

Children and Young People who cannot live at home

Sometimes children and young people cannot stay with their own families.

Social workers will try and find out if there are any other relatives who are able and willing to look after the child or young person.

If this is not possible, or appropriate, then we will look after the child or young person.

Most children and young people looked after will be with foster families. Some will be in residential homes.

0ur LAC service manages the council’s two residential homes and the fostering and adoption services.

We also have a team supporting and providing education for children in care.
