Haringey’s BSF programme

Smiling pupilsBSF is about more than buildings, it is about transforming the way we educate young people. Haringey’s BSF programme will see more than £200m invested in improving schools in the borough. This funding will be used to realise a vision of successful schools, enjoying the confidence of local communities, improving the life chances of local children and young people. Activity undertaken through BSF will help to promote change and regeneration throughout our schools and into the wider community.

Our BSF programme in Haringey aims to:

  • transform learning;
  • place schools at the heart of their communities; and
  • contribute to social and economic regeneration.

Transforming the way we educate young people

A key way of transforming learning is through improving ICT within schools (for example computers and interactive whiteboards) so that it is simple to use, and provides reliable support to teaching and learning. Whether it is through new buildings or by existing buildings being refurbished or the provision of enhanced ICT facilities throughout, all our secondary schools will benefit.

Improving Schools

Standards of education in our schools are improving all the time. For example, the percentage of our students achieving 5+ A*-C grade GCSEs increased from 31% in 2001 to 53.2% in 2006. This improvement, along with a growing number of people arriving in the borough, has led to greater demand for secondary school places.

Background to BSF in Haringey

Each school involved in Haringey BSF considered a number of options for developing their school site and improving facilities. The preferred options formed the basis of a submission to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in autumn 2006 – the Outline Business Case (OBC) (please see the BSF Programme page).
