The Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) brings together each of the main organisations that work with children and families in the borough, with the aim of ensuring that we work together effectively to keep children safe.

The development of the Safeguarding and Looked After Children Plan has been an iterative process with several refreshes having taken place. The first Improvement Plan (JAR Action Plan 27/02/2009) was submitted to the Secretary of State Ed Balls in February 2009 in response to the Joint Area Review of November 2008. The plan was designed to improve child protection in the borough over the following three years.
The action plan has been regularly reviewed to incorporate actions resulting from recommendations and findings from inspections of progress in the provision of safeguarding (July 2009 and February 2010), unannounced inspection of contact, referral and assessment arrangements (September 2010) and recommendations from Serious Case Reviews. In March 2011 the Safeguarding Plan was renamed the Safeguarding and Looked After Children Action Plan, to reflect the wider remit of Ofsted and Care Quality Commission’s inspection of safeguarding and looked after children services held in January 2011. The Safeguarding and Looked After Children Action Plan incorporates actions in response to the identified areas for improvement, as well as actions carried over from previous iterations of the plan.
The delivery of the Safeguarding and Looked After Children Action Plan remains a priority for the partnership and is reflected by the robust reporting arrangements.
