Pension Credits
Older People’s Services are working in partnership with the local Pensions Service to set up advice surgeries in supported housing units and drop-in centres. These surgeries have been set up partly to advise older people about Pension Credit.
The Pension Credit has two elements:
- The guarantee element of Pension Credit tops up income of people aged 60 and over to at least £114.05 a week for single people and £174.05 a week for couples. This can be higher if the claimant (or their partner) has a severe disability, caring responsibilities or allowable housing costs (e.g. mortgage interest).
- The savings element of Pension Credit provides a reward for pensioners aged 65 and over who have modest savings and/or second pensions. The reward is 60p for every £1.00 of qualifying incomes. Only income above a certain level counts towards the savings credit. Savings credit can award pensioners up to £17.88 a week for single claimants and £23.58 for couples.
