This page explains how your charges for residential or nursing home services are worked out and should be read in conjunction with your Statement of Charges.
1. Your residential placement
The residential or nursing home services you receive make up your residential placement. The full cost of your stay is shown as the total cost of the residential placement.
|top2. Local authority contribution
This is the amount we pay towards the full cost of your residential placement. We will normally pay this amount direct to the home.
|top3. Your income
Most Social Security Benefits are taken into account, although some war related benefits will be partially disregarded. Income such as private pensions, earnings or trust income will also be taken into account.
Any capital and savings you may have up to the value of £13,500 are ignored completely. For every £250 you have between £13,500 and £22,250 we will add £1 to the income used to calculate your charge. If you have savings over £22,250 you will be liable for the full cost of your residential or nursing home placement.
|top4. Money for personal expenses
You are entitled to a personal allowance for the purchase of newspapers and other items. The level of this allowance is set each year by the government.
|top5. Your contribution
The amount you are required to pay is the total income used to calculate your charge, less the amount you retain for personal expenses unless you are liable for the full cost.
