Charges for a short stay in a residential or nursing home
This page explains how much you will pay each week for a short stay in a residential or nursing home from 9 April 2007. A short stay is for less than eight weeks and is known as respite or step down care.
1. Your weekly contribution
| Your age | 18-24 | 25-59 | 60+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat rate charge | £52.65 | £65.20 | £102.90 |
2. Your questions answered
How much do I pay?
You will receive an invoice after your short stay showing how much you have to pay. We will pay the difference between your contribution and the full cost directly to the home. If your stay exceeds eight weeks, a full financial assessment of your income and assets will need to be considered. We will write to you explaining this in more detail.
What if I have a low income?
If you have a low income, you may be able to claim extra money from the Department for Work and Pensions to help pay towards the cost of your care. Please note that there are strict time limits for making benefit claims and you, or the person looking after your financial affairs, should ensure that any claim is made before your short stay.
