Consultation on proposed changes to the Supply of Community Equipment in Haringey
The Consultation is now closed
Update: 8 November 2012
Changes to the Supply of Community Equipment in Haringey.
These changes to the service took effect from 1 November 2012 - from which point on, community equipment such as pressure mattresses and hoists will be delivered, collected, maintained and recycled by a provider called Medequip.
Please note that your current service should not be affected in any way and you will continue to receive the service in just the same way as you have always done - but from Medequip rather than the Council from this point on.
The number to telephone will be 020 8709 7050 where Medequip’s customer services staff will be happy to assist you. Alternatively, you can fax the provider on 020 8551 2900.

What we consulted on
Shape the future of community equipment services.
Haringey Council wanted people's views about the future of its Community Equipment Services.
Purchasing, delivery, maintenance and collection of complex daily aids to living such as beds, hoists, pressure mattresses, reclining chairs are essential in helping disabled or older people retain their independence. This is currently managed by Haringey Council Adult Services from a depot located within the borough.
We proposed to change the way in which we meet the needs of those who received/would receive such community equipment from Haringey Council in the future by:
- closing the current store when the lease on the building expires at the end of December 2012, and
- joining a framework agreement, consortia or other form of collaborative venture for the purchasing, delivery, collection, servicing, storage and recycling of complex equipment aids for daily living
When we consulted
The consultation ran from 14 February - 14 March 2012.
Who we consulted
- People who use the services, their families and carers
- Other key stakeholders from the NHS, voluntary and independent sector
- Local people
- We wanted to hear from people if they personally used the service, knew of friends or family that did, or had a view about these proposed changes to the service.
How people could be heard and have their say
To have their say about our proposals people completed our online questionnaire, or downloaded and returned the paper version of the questionnaire. Alternatively they were able to write to us with their views, or fax, email or text us.
Timetable for Implementation:
| Activity | Key Milestone |
|---|---|
| Consultation | 14 February - 14 March 2012 |
| Feedback on consultation | Early April 2012 |
| Decision by Haringey Council | (Was expected to have been at cabinet 12 April 2012) was at Cabinet on 12 June 2012. |
| New arrangements in place | From August/September and before end November 2012 |
| Current equipment store closes | By 31 December 2012 |
What happens next?
Following the Cabinet meeting on 12 June 2012 , it is the Council’s intention to transfer provision to the Kensington and Chelsea led London Consortium and enter into a call-off contract under the framework arrangement set up for other local authorities in London who form part of that consortium. We will now begin the process of transferring the service. Our current expectation is that we will have fully done so by November 2012 but these timings may change as detailed negotiations around the implementation get underway.
