Haringey Forum for Older People

Do you want a say in how services for older people are run?

If so, the Haringey Forum for Older People could be for you.

The Haringey Forum for Older People (HFOP) was launched in 2002. Since that time, it has built up a membership of close to 900 older people in Haringey from all walks of life.

Open meetings are held two or three times a year, providing forum members with an opportunity to discuss the issues that matter to them with each other, and with officers and service managers. The topics chosen by Forum members for discussion so far have included:

• Transport
• Community safety
• Hospital care
• Finance
• Leisure services
• Respect and dignity
• Older People's Housing Strategy
• Warmth Strategy (Heat or Eat).

The Forum is exploring how it might engage with older people who are isolated or alone. This includes those who:

• are housebound
• do not have friends or relatives
• have mental health needs
• do not speak English as a first language.

If you would like to contribute to this debate, the Forum is eager to hear your views.

As well as influencing the way in which services are run, the Forum is also a very friendly and sociable group. It welcomes all older people from all backgrounds and is an excellent way of meeting new people.
