Health emergencies
If you need immediate care, ring 999 and ask for an ambulance to take you to the nearest hospital accident and emergency department or go straight to the nearest one yourself. Your GP will be able to give you details of what arrangements they have for caring for their patients out of hours. If you need to ring the GP out of normal working hours a message on the answer-phone will tell you who to call.

|back to topHelp with mental health issues
Dementia and confusion are problems that mainly affect older people. But other mental health issues such as depression happen too. Social Services, the Mental Health Trust and voluntary organisations provide services and a voice for users.
Community Mental Health Services for Older People (Mental Health Trust)
Haringey has two community mental health teams (covering the east and west of the borough) for people over the age of 65. The teams are based at St Ann’s Hospital and include community mental health nurses, psychologists, community mental health occupational therapists and social workers, and each team has a consultant psychiatrist attached to it. Admiral Nurses, who support carers of people with dementia, are also attached to the teams.
The teams help people and their carers with mental health needs such as depression, dementia, memory difficulties, anxiety and other mental health problems. GP referral is needed.
For more information visit the Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust website (external link).
