Clubs and Community Groups

This section outlines the community organisations of interest to older people, including social centres and drop-in centres. It also gives information about lifelong learning, leisure and exercise opportunities so that older people can enjoy an active retirement.

Clubs and groups

Haringey has many community groups providing a wide range of activities, support, volunteering opportunities and information services. If you can’t find a group to meet your needs, contact HAVCO (external link) or see the section on community organisations and centres.

AGLOW (Association of Greater London Older Women) is a membership organisation, which aims to bring together older women from different backgrounds and cultures in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere through London-wide events.

Provides a day care and drop-in centre for young, adult and older disabled Turkish and Greek Cypriots. Services include advice, welfare rights information, outreach including escorting, interpreting, advocacy and health support, activities, outings, crafts and physiotherapy sessions.

A large group of retired people who meet at Protheroe House, Chestnut Road, London N17 9BQ. They arrange outings, have speakers and discuss relevant issues to do with retirement. Membership fee is £3 a year.
Townswomen’s Guild (Haringey)

The guild holds meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. A group dial-a-ride facility is available for people without transport. Activities include a ramblers group, music evenings and dancing as well as support for national campaigns.
