Haringey Carer of the Year
Carers of the Year 2011

Two Tottenham residents were chosen as joint winners of Haringey’s Carer of the Year award.
Mrs Maria Wood and Mr Hervin Forbes were presented with their awards by Cllr Dilek Dogus, the Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Services, Gina Adamou, the Mayor of Haringey and Mr Mostak Ahmed from Maison Moti who sponsored this year’s awards.
Mrs Wood, from Junction Road, has cared for her husband who suffers from schizophrenia for over 30 years.
Mr Forbes, who lives in Elm Park Avenue, has cared for his wife for over 40 years. She suffers from Bipolar disorder.
Both were nominated for the award by the Mental Health Carers Support Association and play an active role in the work of the association.
Three other carers were presented with Special Recognition Awards:
- Alan Carey, from Church Lane in Hornsey, who looks after his wife who has mobility problems, his two daughters and two grand-daughters who have learning difficulties.
- Mrs Brinda Juggermauth and her son Pat, from Bruce Castle Road in Tottenham, look after Mrs Juggermauth’s husband who has suffered from Alzheimers for 10 years. Pat had to study for a degree from home so he could help care for his father.

On behalf of the council, I’m delighted to be able to show our appreciation for the work, love and commitment of all the unpaid 16,000 carers in Haringey.
Maison Moti is an independent specialist provider of accommodation, social care and support services for adults with a diagnosed mental health condition.

2010: Tom O'Hara, from Lordship Lane: Tom was one of 16 people nominated for Carer of the Year!
2009: Andreas Petinou, from Sidney Road, Wood Green. For the first time a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' was also presented this year. It went to Linda Dawson from Holcombe Road, Tottenham.
2008: Sharon Lindsay and Hilda Currey from Manor Road, N17 and Rutland Gardens N4 respectively were joint winners

2007: Luis Camara from Sidney Road in Wood Green was one of an estimated 16,000 unpaid carers in the borough. He was presented with a special trophy to mark the award.
